Hello Everyone!
Nick and I are fresh back from a great conference with 100 other ski coaches from around the US in Minneapolis! It was a great weekend, and I think it stimulated some good thoughts for both of us as we sat down to start sketching plans together for the winter today.
The first step to those plans for the Devo team will be kicking off our winter training program this Saturday at Birch Hill with some dryland technique work, bounding/spenst/plyometrics, and a strength circuit. We will start at 2 and should be finished by 3:30. Athletes should bring a pair of dryland poles, which are any type of ski poles that come up to about chest height ideally, but one can get by with poles up to shoulder height. Outside of that range and they tend to get in the way. An old pair of beater poles is perfect.

The FXC Oversight Committee approved a reduced price for this winter of
$750, as we more and more see the Devo program as a feeder to the Comp
Team and really want to make the finances as little of a hurdle as possible
for people to join. As some of you I'm sure are aware, interested
individuals are always welcome to join us for a week and see if the
program is a good fit. You should also feel free to pass along
my email and phone number if you know of people who have questions.
Last but not least, a number of you submitted your thoughts earlier this month about the schedule for the winter. Thanks for doing that, we greatly appreciate your input. The greatest concerns were with the lateness of the weekday evening sessions, and having so many practices on the east side of town. One of the strongest influences in our schedule is the high school training schedule, because for FXC as a whole, we feel that our personal interaction with those programs is really important for keeping on of our ski community's greatest assets strong. Our proposal is as follows:
Tuesday 6 to 7:30 (inside BY 7:30)
Wednesday 5:30 to 7
Friday 5:30 to 6:30 (or 7 if waxing for a race)
Saturday AM race or PM practice (typically, special events such as tours
may alter that)
Sunday early PM practice (special events may alter the schedule).
Through October we will hold ONLY Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday practice. We will switch to the 5-day schedule in November.
More details including training and race schedules and rough schedules for the season to follow. In the meantime, please fire away if you have questions.
Looking forward to getting things rolling on Saturday!
