FXC History

skiers at finishThe concept for FXC grew out of a debate on a popular skiing website at the end of the 2005 racing season.  From this exchange, the question arose as to what Fairbanks could do to better support its developing ski racers.  The response was to develop a year-round ski program for middle and high school age skiers.

In May of 2005, an informal group began meeting to decide how to best accomplish this.  They brought forth a plan to the Nordic Ski Club Fairbanks, and after extensive discussion, the ski club’s board of directors voted in favor of the program and granted it seed money to help it get started.

The goal of this program, which would come to be known as Fairbanks Cross Country, is to provide J3-OJ skiers with the training, support and knowledge they need to excel in the sport of cross country skiing.  This is done in a manner that favors the athletes’ longevity and long-term success in the sport rather than immediate results.  Furthermore, as a program of the Nordic Ski Club, Fairbanks Cross Country is committed to conducting itself in a manner that is responsible to not only the interests of team members, but to the Fairbanks ski community as a whole.

FXC is now entering its second season, and the program continues to grow and develop alongside its members…
