I
thought I might remind everyone of our standard operating procedure for
the Comp team (different from the Devo team) is on smokey days. For
lack of a better resource that I know of, we try to use the Borough's
Air Quality Index and make an assessment of the current air quality in the lead-up to
practice. We definitely want to err on the side of caution, and
individual considerations are always made. The goal is to keep
training, but to do so in a way that is responsible to long-term health
and performance. In essence this means that for 'moderate' air
quality we'll keep going with the normal plan, when it gets 'unhealthy
for sensitive individuals' we back off the intensity and possibly shorten
or go inside. When it is 'unhealthy' we definitely go easier and
shorter and try to get inside and possibly even cancel practice, and
when it is very unhealthy we definitely go inside or cancel. If
we have periods of extended bad air we may try to schedule some short-notice
day trips to training locales where the air is good - the only case
I can remember doing this in the past we went for a camping/hiking trip
near Rainbow ridge. Hopefully, we don't have to bother with that.

Kipp gets some air, rollerski agility drills 7/8/09.
